Theme for the Year

CALLED TO CHANGE…JUSTICE FOR CREATION

Just what does this theme mean, Called to Change…Justice for Creation?  A good question!

We will tell you what it does not mean.  It does not mean adding one more thing to your To Do List.  It does not mean one more meeting to go to.  It does not mean more dollars to give or one more senator to call.

Let’s start with Called and a lovely poem by Karyn Kedar from God Whispers:  Stories of Soul, Lessons of the Heart.

GOD WHISPERS:  STORIES OF SOUL, LESSONS OF THE HEART

Believe that the universe speaks to you,

And you will be privy to endless chatter.

Believe that God leaves you secret messages to uncover,

And your life becomes an endless treasure hunt.

If you believe that this is nonsense,

Then you will encounter a world that is mute and devoid of guidance.

Messages from God are everywhere.

Listen, watch

Get it on a whisper

God is leading you down gentle paths.

So to be Called is to receive an invitation.  It may be in the voice of a friend, a book, a speaker, a sermon, the voice of conscience, an intuition, a sense of being drawn toward something, a yearning, a longing, or some event that gets your attention.

To receive a call requires openness, being present, paying attention to what has heart and meaning, watching, reflecting, listening with the ear of your heart…God is speaking.

And what about Change?  What are your responses to the word change?  Excitement, fear, denial or all of the above and more?

There is a universal impulse toward renewal.  Everything is changing.  A new thing is always being done.  Sometimes when it is, we call it conversion…a deep change.  Deep change is about changing the way we look at life, the way we are in the world.  It comes from being in tune with the cosmic voice of God.  It comes from knowing deeply our oneness with the universe and being aware of the sacred in every single element of life.

This universal impulse toward renewal is exactly that…a rhythm, a movement, a process toward the new.  And it leads to change in the way we do life.  Sometimes it creeps up on us.  Sometimes there is an identifiable catalyst.

So we hope to offer you experiences this year at St Luke that will help be a catalyst for you to hear the Call, experience deep change and determine for yourself what is meant by Justice for Creation.
