Our Mission Statement

St. Luke is a joyful, inclusive and compassionate community

We are a progressive More Light Church and welcome all people into the life and leadership of the church.  We believe that every member is a minister and operate in a shared ministry model.  Liturgy, sermons, and prayers reflect our interconnectedness with our community and the world.

on a spiritual journey

Exploring various theologies and expressions of spirituality energizes and empowers the community to be open to God's presence.  The emphasis in worship is on God with us, among us, knowable and acting through us in the world.  Sermons that raise challenging questions are more important to us than sermons that attempt to provide answers.

seeking to do justice, make peace, act mercifully and to walk humbly with God.

St. Luke perceives Jesus' message to be one of love, compassion, non-violence, service and justice.  We carry this message with us as we continue to seek a balance between being and doing, believing that a stable spiritual life provides us with the energy to work for justice in our world.

We invite you to join us on the journey!

Our History

More Stuff

Sunday Schedule   During the school year we provide education for all ages at 9:15, followed by worship at 10:30.  Summer schedule (beginning end of May) is worship at 9:30.  Nursery is always provided for both education and worship.

Shared Ministry is our style of doing things around here.  A tradition of St. Luke is "every member a minister."  In the Presbyterian form of government the Session (12 elected "elders" and the two pastors) sets the vision and program of the congregation.  We all participate.  Our Pastors are Gwin Pratt and Brad Froslee.

Mission/Social Justice Ministries offer opportunities to serve through seven Outreach Focus Groups:  American Indian; Environmental, Housing; Latin America/Haiti; More Light; Major Gifts; and Peace & Justice.

Spiritual Growth   While we understand spiritual growth and social action to be one and the same thing, we do offer specific opportunities to nourish one's spiritual life:  Sunday morning or evening classes, spiritual direction, etc.

Education  Sunday School for three year-olds through high school meets each Sunday during the school year at 9:15.  Adult Education meets at the same time, plus occasional classes in the evening.  A nursery is provided each Sunday morning for infants through three years from 9:00-11:40. Confirmation/Commissioning is a hands-on, experiential program which begins in the fall of 9th grade.  See The Challenge or bulletin under "Youth News" to learn of upcoming events.

Small Groups are social/fellowship groups centered on everything from quilting to spiritual growth, from arts to woodworking to simply meeting monthly for dinner and friendship.  We have dozens of small groups.  Non-St. Luke members are welcome.

Social Events  Annual events include a Progressive Dinner, Advent Event, Men's and Women's Retreats, and other fun opportunities to gather as a community for fun and fellowship.

Choirs  No audition is required for any of our musical groups.  The "Adult" choir (teens are welcome) rehearses each Wednesday at 7:00 and sings about 26 Sundays during the school year.  The Children's Choir is primarily children in first through fifth grade.  They rehearse before Sunday school for a few weeks ahead of each worship participation (about every six weeks).

"The Production"  Nearly every year an intergenerational musical takes place, usually just before Lent.  About 50 people, kindergarten through adult, participate each year.  Frequently it is a work written by one of our members.

Educational/Service Travel   Many of our congregation have participated in trips to Central America, Haiti, Hungary, Mexico, Cuba, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation  and elsewhere.  We have an ongoing relationship with community development projects in Pignon, Haiti and in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

One-to-One Giving   We seek to give a dollar away for every dollar we spend on our local programming.

More Light   The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) excludes openly gay and lesbian people from positions of ordained leadership.  Refusing to condone this discrimination, we have joined with other churches to be a More Light Church.  With them, we work toward changing this policy, and welcome everyone regardless of sexual orientation into full participation in our congregation.
