More Light Focus Group
Back
More Light met
infrequently over 2007, with most work being done via e-mail. The
overall goals of the Focus Group continue to be: to welcome gay,
lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT) persons to St. Luke; to
financially support organizations that are working on GLBT issues;
to support legislation and other activities that move towards equal
rights; and to change the position of the Presbyterian Church (USA)
to permit the ordination of GLBT persons.
Over the course
of this year we sponsored, in conjunction with the New
Member/Outreach Focus Group, the OVation concert at St. Luke that
benefited the on-going work of Open Arms. St. Lukers attended the
JustFair lobby day at the Capitol to work for Human rights. We
purchased a new tent and banner for the Twin Cities Pride Festival
and organized with other More Light Churches in the Twin Cities the
schedule and work of this booth. We also had marchers (and even a
rollerblader) in the Twin Cities Pride Parade.
Recently Gwin
Pratt and Brad Froslee have been attending meetings to work with
others in the Presbytery who are in support of Paul Capetz in
declaring a departure from the Book of Order on the issue of
sexuality and to be reinstated as a minister member of the Twin
Cities Area Presbytery.
Funds were
distributed to several local and national organizations including:
National More Light, That All May Freely Serve, OutFront Minnesota,
Rainbow Families, District 202, The Naming Project, PFLAG, Open
Arms, Institute of Welcoming Resources (and the Shower of Stoles
project).
Advertising in
Lavender magazine continues through the work of the New
Member/Outreach Focus Group.
